I have endless good things to say about Nelson Family Auto; they're the only place I bring any of my cars. They have more than reasonable pricing, and they're extremely knowledgeable. Nick and Foster are always a pleasure to work with; the communication is always great. I know my cars are in good hands when I leave them with them.

We live out of state, and our daughter is away at college when her car broke down. Being so far away, it was stressful trying to figure out how to help her. Thankfully, we found Nelson’s Auto Repair in Dinkytown, and they were absolutely fantastic. Terry helped arrange a quick tow, diagnosed the problem, and had her car repaired and back on the road all in the same day. They were incredibly helpful, communicated with me throughout the process. Can't say enough about the service we got at Nelsons Auto Repair!

Best experience I've ever had at a mechanic shop very helpful very knowledgeable very good prices explain to me what services I would need next for my car without being pushy which I really like what really won me over is they allowed my dog inside that really means a lot to me as my dog goes with me everywhere I will definitely be back as their local very close very friendly and within walking distance so that I can drop off my car and walk back when my car is done too bad I can only do five stars cuz I would give them 100 Stars

I would definitely recommend Nelson's!!! We had trouble finding a reliable service option as we have 2 girls going to college in the area. Came across Nelson's and have had nothing but fantastic service!!! It's nice knowing the girls can go there and have no worries about the service. As parents living 250 miles away having a service station that cares about our girls safety as much as we do is really comforting. Thanks again for taking care of our daughters vehicle!!! Have had the simple things done here for several years now. Always satisfied with the oil changes etc. Finally needed some major work brakes, sway bars, alignment, oil change etc. Yes they can handle it. Great with communication, a good loaner, and a fair price as I expected. I have found a new home.!!!

Nelson's is awesome. They have done extensive work to both my 2015 Audi S4 and my 1998 Toyota Altezza track car (both somewhat complicated vehicles). Their willingness to learn and knowledge of things that are out of the ordinary are things that I have not found at other shops. I would trust them to do anything and everything.

I've been going to Nelson's Lakeside Auto ever since they opened in Wayzata. They have always been extremely helpful, patient with all my questions, respectful, professional, and friendly. Mike gets me on their schedule quickly and takes care of any issue my Subaru has. I just got done speaking with Mike thinking I needed to get my brake pads replaced. But he recommended waiting until my next oil change to evaluate them at that time. He could have easily gotten me on the schedule, but he didn't. You can trust them to be honest with you. I highly recommend them!

The shop staff were very friendly. They were transparent about the repairs and invoicing was nicely automated. Repairs done well.

Brake job done at the Uptown location

I absolutely love these guys. Derek is the best and has the one thing that will keep me coming back forever — my complete and total TRUST that they’ll do great work, and ONLY what’s necessary.

Came in with a check engine light on Ask for help and I got help in no time. Almost instantly they plugged in scanner looked it up, found the problem fixed it and sent me on my way. It was great service real fast and easy to talk to.

this shop is hands down the best shop in Minneapolis. I have been going to green garage for years and I literally tell everyone I know to go here. These guys will get you in same day and typically get whatever you need done in an incredibly timely matter. They are so sweet, and will tell you how it is in a really easy to understand way. Derek and the guys that work here are the absolute best. I’ve had a car fiasco where I essentially had to trade in a car that was a pos, these guys went 100% above and beyond to not only help me rectify that situation but also to get me into a new vehicle that is safe and what I was looking for, take advantage of their pre-purchase inspections. Not only is this shop fair, and knowledgeable but as a customer you can tell that they care about only giving you the best experience possible. It’s awesome to walk in and be treated with respect and familiarity. Please please please take your vehicle here!!!

Fixed my issue quickly and for a very reasonable price!

Nelson’s Lakeside Auto provided truly exceptional service today, I am very grateful and happy to have them in our area!! They have won my trust and my appreciation. They efficiently solved an issue and somehow got it done same day! I know they were busy and I was adequately advised and prepared to wait till tomorrow, but they went above and beyond and got it taken care of. Mike and his team provided the excellent service we’ve now experienced for several visits. I am happy to bring our family vehicles here and glad to be a customer, having Nelsons’s keeping our vehicles safe and on the road.

My husband and I were in the process of purchasing a vehicle from Igor, who left the negative review below. Before making such a significant purchase, we wanted to have the vehicle independently inspected, so we brought it to Nelson’s Auto Performance & Repair shop. The owner was extremely helpful, professional, and courteous. He was also willing to inspect the vehicle immediately, which was very helpful for everyone involved. During the inspection, an oil leak was identified that could cost thousands of dollars to repair. Once this was discovered, the seller, Igor, became visibly agitated and demanded his car keys. Although the inspection had been completed, my husband decided to request an estimate for the necessary repairs. Igor became impatient and demanded his keys in a disrespectful manner. When he was informed that he needed to wait while the transaction was completed and the repair estimate was prepared, he pulled out his phone and began recording. It is important to clarify that Igor was not paying for the inspection or the repair estimate, we requested and paid for these services ourselves. We simply wanted to make an informed decision before purchasing the vehicle. Our experience with Nelson’s Repair Shop was excellent. Nelson was professional, knowledgeable, and willing to help us right away. I would definitely use this repair shop again and highly recommend them to anyone looking for honest and quality service. Mike was super nice and honest. They are not all about the money. They care about their customers. The person that referred me said they do excellent work and are reasonably priced too.

Honest assessments, gave good options and really good communication

Brought my recently purchased Corolla here for an oil change and tire rotation. Work was done same day. Prices were a little higher than I'm used to, but I trust them more than a "speedy in-n-out" oil change place.

I have all my repairs done @ Nelson Auto I trust and value there opinion. I enjoy talking with Eric.

These guys did a fantastic job on my brakes! My 2018 Toyota 4Runner was shaking when I applied the brakes. It was bad. Seems like a rotor replacement is in order. I took the vehicle to another shop and the found that not only did I need new rotors, but my front tie rods were loose and needed replacement. Fine. $1634 later the problem seems fixed but returns a few weeks later. I take it back to them *two* more times and after nearly $5k of work they still couldn't fix it. So I took my vehicle to Nelson's and they worked on it. They re-did some of the same work as before but with better parts, and then did other stuff that the first shop didn't do. It wasn't cheap. It was reasonable, and it was 100% worth it! My only regret is not taking my vehicle to Nelson's in the first place. Since the guys at Nelson's worked on my vehicle, it's driving and braking like new! I couldn't be happier!

Like many of the reviews here, I cannot recommend this shop enough, especially for classics or carbureted engines. They are EXTREMELY honest and upfront about the work they will do and what it will cost. Had taken an old c3 Corvette to a few other shops to fix issues I couldn't myself to no luck and large bills. When I called Nelsons lakeside auto I was greeted by Mike, who couldn't be nicer. He kept me up to date on all work, whether that be via phone call or text message, I never had to wonder or worry about my car. The mechanic, Wes, was also extremely nice and communicative. He called before every bit of work and explained why it needed to be done in language I could understand. It is rare to come across such a combination of skill, communication, honesty, and kindness. If you care about your classic, this is the shop.
